Max Clark could not have scripted it better. Baseball's No. 13 overall prospect and the third pick of the 2023 draft went 3-for-4 with a walk, two doubles, and two runs in his major league debut, batting seventh and playing center field in Detroit's 13-1 demolition of the Athletics. He worked a walk off Jeffrey Springs in his first plate appearance, blooped his first hit into left in the fourth, then drove in a run during a seven-run eighth.
The 21-year-old was hitting .276/.368/.434 with 11 homers and 21 steals at Triple-A Toledo, and he'd been scorching since mid-June - .326 with seven homers and nine steals over his last 33 games. He replaces Matt Vierling, who hit the 10-day IL with an adductor strain. Notably, Detroit promoted him before Aug. 14, which forfeits the Prospect Promotion Incentive draft pick he could have earned. That's a club signaling he's up to stay.
Action: Add Clark everywhere he's available. The speed alone plays in 5x5, and he joins Kevin McGonigle in a Detroit lineup that just put up 13 runs. The strikeout risk is real for a 21-year-old, but the opportunity and the pedigree justify an aggressive claim.
Twins Buy Innings in Kremer
