García Jr. Lands in the Bronx

The Yankees acquired Luis García Jr. from Washington for four right-handers: Yovanny Cruz, Jake Bird, and prospects Jack Cebert (New York's No. 14) and Ben Grable (No. 25). García is having a career year at .283 with 23 homers and 76 RBIs, and he led the NL with a .560 slugging percentage at the time of the deal. He's under club control through 2027, so this isn't a rental.

The fit is less clean than the numbers suggest. García bats left-handed, while New York had been hunting a right-handed bat, and he's hit righties far better (.295) than lefties (.218). Paul Goldschmidt runs the opposite split (.309 against lefties, .201 against righties), and reporting points toward the two splitting first base by opposing starter, with Ben Rice at DH. The Yankees are navigating August without Judge, Bellinger, and Stanton, which is what made the move necessary.

Action: Add García where available - he's a legitimate power bat entering a better lineup. But temper expectations: a strict platoon would cost him roughly a third of his starts. Watch the first week of lineup cards to see whether the Yankees commit to that or let him play through lefties. Goldschmidt owners should be more concerned than García owners.

Peralta Traded to Tampa Bay

Action: Hold, and expect a modest bump. Same arm, better team, better defense behind him - the wins should come more easily than they did in Queens. The caveat is workload: Peralta is carrying heavy innings, and Tampa Bay manages pitcher usage more aggressively than most clubs, so don't be surprised by skipped turns in September.

Rushing Scratched with an Arm Issue

Houston beat Texas 7-3 for a season-high sixth straight win, moving to 11-1 over its last 12 and opening a 2½-game AL West lead. Yordan Alvarez had a multi-hit day with a pair of doubles and is up to 84 RBIs, per @brianmctaggart.

Action: Core hold. Alvarez is in the middle of his best stretch of the season, and the lineup around him is producing at a rate that should keep the RBI chances coming.

Misiorowski Hits 10 Strikeouts Again

Jacob Misiorowski struck out 10 for a third consecutive start, per @AdamMcCalvy, setting a Brewers single-season record with 10 double-digit strikeout games in 21 starts.
