Boston acquired Adley Rutschman from Baltimore about an hour before the deadline, sending back prospects Anthony Eyanson, Kyson Witherspoon, and Enddy Azocar, catcher Carlos Narváez, and a player to be named. The Red Sox also receive catcher Jake Rogers and cash. Eyanson and Witherspoon were Boston's top two pitching prospects, and one rival evaluator called the price one of the most ridiculous he'd seen in 30 years.

The catch: Rutschman is on the 10-day IL with left wrist inflammation, and there's no debut timeline. He's hitting .251 with eight homers, 47 RBIs, and a .764 OPS in 67 games, and has already dealt with ankle inflammation and a concussion this season. He's under control through 2027. Boston has won 23 of 26 and needed the upgrade badly - Narváez and Connor Wong combined for a .615 OPS behind the plate.

Action: Hold Rutschman and wait on the wrist. The talent and the lineup upgrade are real, but wrist injuries sap power well past activation, so don't pay a premium in trades until he's playing. Connor Wong loses whatever value he had.

Wood Exits with a Left-Side Issue

Action: Watch for the imaging result today. A confirmed oblique strain typically costs two to four weeks, and obliques are notorious for lingering and recurring - if it's confirmed, move quickly for outfield cover rather than holding a roster spot open.

Yankees Promoting Lombard Jr.

Skubal Trade Fallout: Harris Defends the Return
