Greene Done for the Season After Elbow Surgery

Hunter Greene had surgery on a partially torn UCL and will miss the rest of 2026, with his 2027 status unclear. The second opinion he sought last week confirmed the worst version of the outcome.

Action: Drop everywhere, in redrafts. A UCL repair in mid-August means he's unlikely to contribute meaningfully next season either, so the roster spot is better spent on a stream than on hope.

Williams to the IL; Senga Takes the First Save

Devin Williams was placed on the 15-day IL with a right shoulder strain, retroactive to Aug. 8, and the Mets don't expect a long absence. Anthony DiComo reports the club will not formally name a replacement closer, but Kodai Senga recorded the first save in Williams' absence last night.

Action: Add Senga now in saves leagues. The Mets calling it a committee matters less than who actually got the first chance, and a converted starter with a 98 mph fastball and a forkball is exactly the arm a manager keeps going back to. His value cratered when he was moved to relief two weeks ago - this is the path back, and it comes cheap because most managers wrote him off. The risk is real: Williams isn't expected to be out long, so this could be a two-week window rather than a role.

Chapman's Season Ends in Surgery

Matt Chapman underwent season-ending surgery Tuesday for a core-muscle injury and will not return in 2026.

Action: Drop in every redraft format. We flagged this as effectively season-ending when the surgery was scheduled; it's now confirmed.

Rutschman Set to Return

Adley Rutschman took batting practice and is expected to be activated today after a workout, per Chris Cotillo. Boston has been carrying three catchers, which manager Chad Tracy noted is unworkable, so a corresponding move is coming.

Action: Activate him immediately if you stashed him. A healthy Rutschman in Boston's lineup is a top-five catcher the rest of the way, though wrist injuries do suppress power early - give him a week before judging the bat.

Eovaldi to the IL with Elbow Inflammation

Nathan Eovaldi was placed on the 15-day IL with right posterior elbow inflammation.

Action: Hold on an IL slot if you have one; drop in shallow formats. Elbow inflammation in mid-August rarely produces a return in the minimum, and Texas has no reason to rush him.

Snell Back in the Dodgers Rotation

Blake Snell was activated off the 60-day IL and made his first start back against Kansas City. Los Angeles is 71-48 with the rotation and bullpen both stabilizing.

Action: Hold. Expect a limited pitch count for another start or two as he builds up.

Zack Littell made his Diamondbacks debut with 4.2 scoreless innings on 45 pitches, walking two and striking out two. He replaces Paul Sewald, who was designated for assignment after the home-run problems that had been mounting for weeks.

Action: Arizona's ninth inning is now genuinely open. Littell profiles as a bulk arm rather than a closer, so the save chances likely go elsewhere - watch who gets the first one. This is the second unsettled bullpen worth monitoring today alongside the Mets.

Wesneski Delivers Seven Strong for Houston

Hayden Wesneski threw seven innings with three runs and seven strikeouts, his second quality outing since returning from a lengthy injury absence earlier this month. Cam Smith went 3-for-4 with a homer and a game-tying single in the ninth, and Isaac Paredes added a two-run double in the 10th as Houston beat San Francisco.

Action: Add Wesneski in deeper leagues. Two strong starts since activation makes him a legitimate streaming option, and Houston's offense gives him better win equity than most low-owned arms.

Jax Still Sidelined with Elbow Discomfort

Griffin Jax (44% owned) remains on the 15-day IL with right elbow discomfort, retroactive to Aug. 6, following his medical evaluation this week.

Action: Hold if you have IL room; the retroactive date keeps a near-term return possible. Check for an update from the evaluation before deciding.

Kilian to the IL; Shugart Recalled

Caleb Kilian was placed on the 15-day IL with a left oblique strain, with Chase Shugart recalled from Triple-A. Obliques typically cost two to four weeks.

Okamoto Scratched with a Knee Contusion

Reid Detmers allowed one earned run over six innings, but the Angels lost 4-1 in ten to Texas. Mike Trout homered and walked three times. Los Angeles again couldn't manufacture offense, and the bullpen gave up three in the tenth.

Rays Win a Sixth Straight

Tampa Bay beat Oakland 10-6 for its sixth consecutive win, opening a 5½-game lead in the AL East. Yandy Díaz and Chandler Simpson each had four hits. Ian Seymour (37% owned) again gave the club length.

Dodgers Edge Detroit Behind a Late Rally

Action: Hold all Dodgers core bats. Ohtani running again is a small but real category bonus if it continues.

Boston Reconfigures with Yoshida Back at DH
