Infielder Jose Fernandez was recalled from Triple-A Reno, having already been with the club on the taxi squad in case Arenado couldn't play.

Players on the restricted list are away from the team for non-baseball reasons and receive no pay or service time, and there's no fixed limit on the length of a stay. Marte could theoretically be reinstated before Tuesday's game, or be out considerably longer. Asked about the path forward, Lovullo said, "I haven't got that far." Marte is hitting .249/.314/.446 with 21 homers and 67 RBIs.

Action: Don't drop him, and don't guess at a timeline. Restricted-list stays have no minimum or maximum, so this could resolve today or extend for weeks. Bench him, make sure you have a startable second baseman, and wait for the club to say something concrete. This is a personal matter and the speculation circulating around it isn't worth acting on.

Arenado Sits with Trunk Discomfort
