• WATCH — Aaron Judge (97.7% owned) took on-field batting practice for the first time in his ramp-up. Still no decision on whether he'll need a minor-league rehab assignment.
• WATCH — Shane McClanahan went on the 15-day IL with left forearm tightness. He calls it tightness rather than pain and hopes to pitch again this season.

Campusano's Historic Night Beats the Yankees

Luis Campusano threw out three Yankees basestealers and then hit a walk-off home run in the 10th inning, giving San Diego a 3-2 win at Petco Park.

The milestone is real and specific. Campusano became just the second catcher ever to throw out three runners and hit a walk-off homer in the same game, joining Sammy Taylor on April 4, 1961 — 65 years ago. Both games ended 3-2. He erased Grisham and Jazz Chisholm Jr. at second and, per manager Craig Stammen, the biggest one was Spencer Jones at third in extra innings: "He just had a complete game."

The context makes it matter more. The Padres had just come home from a 1-5 trip through Tampa Bay and Cincinnati, and Campusano has spent half a decade on the verge of a breakthrough that never quite arrived. He's now at .249 with 22 homers and 100 RBI.

Action: ADD in two-catcher and 14-team-plus leagues. A catcher with 100 RBI and everyday playing time on a team in a wild-card race is underowned. In one-catcher formats, this doesn't displace an established starter.

Grisham Exits With Hamstring Trouble

Trent Grisham pulled up with right hamstring discomfort on a stolen-base attempt and will undergo imaging today. Boone said "it certainly could be" an IL situation, with no decision until the results come back.

Worth connecting: Campusano threw out Grisham at second in that game, so the caught stealing and the injury appear to be the same sequence.

Action: WATCH — Do not start him until imaging clears. If he lands on the IL, George Lombard Jr. (13.6% owned) picks up outfield reps and becomes a deep-league flier.

McClanahan to IL With Forearm Tightness

Shane McClanahan was placed on the 15-day IL with left forearm tightness after exiting his start. His own read: it feels like tightness rather than pain, he doesn't think it's serious, and he hopes to pitch again this season. He declined to speculate on the cause.

Forearm tightness in a pitcher with his elbow history warrants caution regardless of how it's characterized. But a 15-day stint with a stated intention to return isn't a drop in most formats.

Action: WATCH — IL-stash if you have the slot. DROP only in shallow leagues where you can't carry an arm that may give you two starts. Don't trade him at a discount on the word "forearm" alone.

Vargas and Montgomery Both Hit No. 30

Miguel Vargas and Colson Montgomery each reached 30 home runs in Chicago's 4-1 win over Minnesota. Vargas got there first, taking a low-and-away Zebby Matthews fastball the opposite way to right-center in the first; Montgomery answered three innings later with a 416-foot shot. Braden Montgomery also went deep.

Both are career highs by a wide margin — Vargas' previous best was 16, Montgomery's was 21. Vargas became the fifth primary White Sox third baseman to reach 30, joining Todd Frazier, Robin Ventura, Joe Crede and Bill Melton. Erick Fedde threw five scoreless.

Chicago is 74-67 and leads the AL Central by 3.5 games over Cleveland, the only team above .500 in the division.

Action: HOLD both. Two 30-homer bats on a division leader are rostered in nearly every format; if either is somehow available, claim immediately.

Pallante Activated, But Starting at Coors

Andre Pallante (14% owned) was activated from the 15-day IL and starts tonight against the Rockies in Colorado. Ryan Fernandez was optioned to Memphis. The 12-game winner slots straight back into the rotation.

The park is the whole story. A pitcher in his first start off the IL, at altitude, is the worst possible combination of a workload question and a ratios risk.

Action: WATCH — Do not stream him tonight regardless of league depth. Add him if you want the rest-of-season innings, but bench this start and evaluate his next one.

Taillon Back in Toronto's Rotation

Jameson Taillon (3% owned) has been activated from the IL and takes tonight's start for the Blue Jays after completing his rehab assignment. Toronto is in a three-way scrap for the final AL wild card.

Action: STREAM in favorable matchups only. First start off a rehab assignment usually means a limited pitch count — check the leash before counting on a win.

Sinclair Debuts With a Perfect Inning

Jack Sinclair made his major-league debut for Washington, touching 98.5 mph, winning a 10-pitch battle for a strikeout, and retiring the side in order. Max Kranick was designated for assignment to open the roster spot.

Action: STASH in deep dynasty only. One clean inning at 98 mph is a reason to write his name down, not to spend a roster spot. There's no save path here yet.

Judge Takes On-Field BP

Snell Rolling Since IL Return

Action: HOLD — Start Snell without hesitation. Tucker ending a month-long homer drought is worth noting if you've been benching him, but one swing isn't a buy signal.

Okert to IL, King Recalled

Steven Okert was placed on the 15-day IL with a right hamstring strain, retroactive to Sept. 1. Houston recalled left-hander Bryan King from Triple-A Sugar Land.

Action: DROP Okert. WATCH King's leverage usage — if he starts appearing in the seventh and eighth, he becomes a holds-league add.

Cole Draws Sunday's Finale in San Diego

Action: HOLD — Petco is a favorable park. A reasonable start-him-with-confidence spot.

Montero Roughed Up in Cleveland

Keider Montero (21% owned) allowed six earned runs on eight hits over four innings, throwing 82 pitches with 51 strikes. He couldn't find his changeup against a left-heavy Cleveland lineup and leaned on the slider instead. Left-handed hitters are slugging .667 against his curveball, and the homer he allowed was the fifth he's given up to a lefty on that pitch this season.

Action: DROP in 12-team leagues. If you're holding in deeper formats, bench him against any lineup stacked with left-handed bats — the platoon split is severe and well-documented enough that opponents are hunting it.

Max Clark Keeps Rolling

Max Clark (15.2% owned) went 2-for-2 with two RBI and a stolen base, following three doubles on Wednesday. A.J. Hinch has been pushing him to be more aggressive on the bases, and this was his first true steal of the year outside of a double steal.

Action: ADD in 14-team-plus leagues. A hot rookie outfielder who has just been given a green light is exactly the profile worth speculating on in September.

Flaherty Could Start Rehab This Weekend

Jack Flaherty could begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo this weekend. Detroit is hopeful he builds workload before returning, though he's unlikely to reach a full starter's load before activation. The Tigers also expect Kerry Carpenter back this season, and Josue Briceno is on the minor-league IL with an ankle sprain.

Action: STASH in deep leagues with IL slots. A mid-to-late-September return on a limited pitch count is worth little in redraft.

River Ryan Throwing a Bullpen This Weekend
