Lineup Spot Shifts
Hitters whose batting-order slot has moved up materially recently vs their season average. Manager commitment to a new slot is a leading indicator that hasn’t hit the box score yet.
How to read this:
Every column tracks the hitter’s mean batting-order slot (1.0 = always leadoff, 9.0 = always #9). Two baselines for the recent windows:
- Prev 3 / Prev 10 — the 3 (or 10) starts BEFORE the latest window. This is the cleanest read of recent changebecause the baseline doesn’t include the recent starts themselves.
- Season — full lookback average. Useful for context, but it includes the recent window which dilutes the delta.
Δ = Recent avg − Baseline avg; negative Δ means moved UP the order (a good thing — better PA / RBI / R opportunity).
Example: Prev 3 slot 5.7 → L3 slot 1.7 = Δ −4.0. He was batting #5-6 three starts back, now hitting 1-2 hole. Clean commitment signal — the prev3 baseline isn’t polluted by the recent move-up like the season number would be.
